Fractional CFO & Strategic Finance
Experienced CFO support for founder-led and investor-backed companies — providing the financial rigour, strategic clarity, and board-level confidence to grow, raise, and exit on the right terms.
About
Mark Hinder is a Chartered Accountant (ACCA) and experienced CFO with over two decades of finance leadership across private equity-backed businesses, high-growth SMEs, and technology companies.
He has worked directly with PE investors and boards through growth, transformation, and exit — including leading a £56m veterinary exit at 17.5× EBITDA, the largest single-site veterinary sale in the UK at the time. Mark brings the same quality of thinking you would expect from a top-tier CFO, structured as fractional engagement that fits your business.
Based in the North East of England, supporting businesses across Yorkshire, London, and the wider UK.
Selected Experience
Senior finance leadership across PE-backed businesses, high-growth companies, and complex transformations — at board level, from day one.
Partnered with LDC and incoming CEO to lead financial transformation of a PE-backed people communications agency. Delivered two clean audits in seven months, secured the company's first multi-year blue-chip retainer, and designed the M&A and buy-and-build strategy underpinning the exit plan.
Secured £3m equity and £6.5m debt funding to support rapid expansion. Delivered first year of profitability and 100% year-on-year revenue growth. Led audit readiness, board reporting, and scenario modelling to support PE exit preparation.
Built the financial model and investor materials for a successful £2m Series A fundraise. Established US subsidiary, introduced new finance processes and KPIs, and managed R&D tax, cashflow, and EMI scheme.
Lead the £56m strategic exit to Linnaeus Group (part of the Mars veterinary group), achieving a ~17.5× EBITDA transaction multiple.
Services
Three core service areas — designed to give leadership teams the financial clarity and strategic capability to move forward with confidence.
Senior finance leadership on a part-time basis — embedded in your business, working directly with your CEO, board, and investors to drive financial performance and strategic clarity.
Financial infrastructure and commercial rigour to support sustainable growth — building the foundations that give leadership teams confidence to scale.
Preparing businesses for fundraising, PE investment, or exit — with financial information, modelling, and strategy that stands up to investor and acquirer scrutiny.
How We Engage
Wynyard Advisory typically supports businesses on a fractional or interim basis — providing experienced CFO leadership without the cost or commitment of a full-time hire. Engagements are tailored to where you are and what you need.
Ongoing strategic finance leadership, embedded in your business over a minimum 3-month engagement. The most common model for scaling businesses.
Senior CFO input at board and leadership level, without a large time commitment. Suited to earlier-stage businesses or as a first step.
Full-time, embedded finance leadership through a period of transition, transformation, or while a permanent CFO is being recruited.
Focused support for a specific project — fundraising preparation, financial model build, exit readiness, or finance function review.
How It Works
A no-obligation call to understand your business, your challenges, and what you're trying to achieve. No pitch — just an honest conversation.
A clear engagement letter defining scope, time commitment, and fees. No ambiguity, no surprises.
Quick immersion into your financials, commercial model, team, and priorities — adding value from week one.
Regular, structured engagement — board meetings, management accounts, strategic conversations — adapted to what your business needs.
Who We Work With
Wynyard Advisory works with companies that need CFO-level thinking but aren't yet at the stage — or scale — where a full-time hire makes sense.
Typical clients include founder-led businesses scaling from £3m–£50m revenue, private equity portfolio companies, and businesses preparing for investment or exit.
Growing fast, but financial visibility hasn't kept pace. You need a commercial brain in the room — not just someone processing the numbers.
Investor-backed companies needing interim or fractional CFO support between hires or through a specific period of transformation or growth.
Preparing for a funding round — where the quality of your financial story, model, and data room directly affects the terms you achieve.
Working towards a trade sale or private equity exit — where financial preparation, EBITDA quality, and exit readiness determine the multiple.
